13. My earliest memories of Bishop Taylor were his regular visits to my primary school. After I was baptized and made my first communion, as an altar server I came to appreciate his annual (at least) visits to my parish to confirm the youth, hear confessions and offer Sunday Mass. He even stepped in when our parish priest was sick. His performance as a bishop was exceptional.

    Bishop Taylor confirmed me in the faith. He was a wise, gentle, pastoral bishop who cared about his people and his diocese. In his retirement he continued to offer Mass in the diocese, covering for priests who were sick or on holiday. He also wrote a number of insightful books that are definitely worth reading.

    I will miss his kindness and his wisdom, and I know the whole diocese will miss his presence.

    My memories of you when I was growing up is that you were gentle and always smiling

15. My faith was renewed every time I met this wonderful man. He was a real people person with time to spend with everyone. I loved his visits and chats when he visited our parish and he appreciated the music I knew he enjoyed.

16. What a wonderful man he was. He took time out to go visit my mum after my dad had passed away (my dad wasn’t Catholic but was buried by fr Jack McGhee) saying a prayer for her. When he was ill she repaid the prayers with a mass card sent to him. He really was a people person. He’s going to be very much missed by lots of people and clergy. Rest in peace My Lord.

20. Bishop Maurice, many happy memories of your visits here to Whithorn, especially when you came to the Annual Diocesan Pilgrimage to St Ninian’s Cave. Even if it had been raining all day, the sun always seemed to appear when you set foot on the shore !! You always kept Whithorn close to your heart, even claiming that you had 2 cathedrals in your diocese, one in Ayr and one in Whithorn, town of the original Candida Casa. I remember attending your ordination as Bishop at Coodham, a wonderful day, my mother was so excited because she was able to shake your hand.
    God Bless, My Lord Bishop, and safe home, you have earned your rest.

21. Bishop Taylor was a wonderful man, very learned who was also a good writer, I have his books. He did an awful lot if good over many years.
    His writings were so informative, which I think many would and have enjoyed, if he was given a donation he would not keep it, he woukd give it to retired priests’ fund. My family origins are in Italy and Malta, Bishop Taylor and I had conversations about Malta, a place he just loved.

    Bishop Maurice you had a lovely long life, bringing kindness to your calling, and those who knew you , may you requiescat in pace with Our Lord, we have lost a wonderful man ❤️

    I always look forward to hear his sermons in the Mass. I love his style; walking through the aisle, while giving his Sermons. Thank you for everything you have done for us. We were so blessed to have you around. May God reward you well for all the goodness.

23. Sad to hear of Bishop Taylor’s passing. I knew him as monsignor Taylor when he was our parish priest in Our Lady of Lourdes East Kilbride. WE used to laugh that many people wanted him to celebrate their funeral Mass when they died. He seem ed to transform funeral s Into a sort of joyful homecoming.I.An unassuming man who opened his house to the people and his heart to all. I chatted with him online a couple( maybe three) years ago. WE were blessed to have known him and been his flock. It’s for sure he is now with the Lord. I pray he will intercede for us before the throne.

24. Bishop Taylor was my Parish Priest when he was in Our Lady of Lourdes , East Kilbride. Myself, husband and 2 daughters experienced the most precious years of our life. He was then Monsignor Taylor, and had an open door at all times, and from what I know this was always respected.. The celebration of the Mass with Maurice Taylor was always a spiritual experience which was expressed in joyful sharing by his parishioners. His funeral Masses were full of the joys of the Love of God.

    He was a gentle, quiet spoken man. It amazes me that this wonderfully quiet gentle man flooded us all with the joy of the Holy Spirit. He was obviously a close friend of the Lord and we all were blessed to have been his flock.

    He is now with his Lord.

Bishop Taylor kindly anointed my Dad in February this year, the day before he passed away and when thanked, Bishop Taylor instead thanked us for asking him and allowing him to help my Dad and said it made him feel useful again. I didn’t know of his amazing life until after he had passed, but he was a humble and wonderful human being, most importantly, to the end. Our family will always be grateful to him for the comfort he gave Dad and us. May he rest in peace.

    Myself and my wife Kay knew Bishop Taylor for many years, we first met him in Coodham and had the privilege of being at his ordination. As a sound engineer he gave me my first opportunity, in what was a new venture for me, at the annual Mass at Whithorn. He mean’t a lot to both my wife and I .

    Always available right to the end never an administrator or desk Priest just the Priest close to his flock.
    His books are amazing and worth a read and you will see the True Holy Man he was and will be remembered for.

42. I met this holy man when he was Monsignor Taylor at Our Lady of Lourdes East Kilbride. My aunt Alice was his housekeeper and although I was a teenager at the time I never forgot how kind, gentle and humble he was and made us all feel welcome. I had the privilege to meet “Don Mauricio” -as we called him in Spain- in the sixties and seventies, with my brother Juan Bautista accompanying our father, Miguel Esquer, then “Administrador” of the Royal Scots College in Valladolid. We were impressed by his simplicity and humility together with his intelligence and sense of humor even in difficult times. He adapted to Spanish culture and perfectly followed all the strictly temporary issues that his position as Rector required. He left Spain with a multitude of friends and admirers of the Scottish Catholic Church. God will reward him for all the good he did. RIP

65. I didn’t know Bishop Taylor well, but my children and I were made to feel welcome at mass because of him. I felt a real care for him and was inspired by the dignity he brought to saying mass as someone very old. I was sad when he had to leave but I am very hopeful that God will be looking after him now.
