The reception of a sacrament is a most important moment in the life of a member of the Church community and careful preparation should be made. RC Ayr offers a time of preparation to those who are to receive sacraments, to enable them to enter more fully into these great mysteries of our faith.

Baptism

The sacrament of baptism is normally celebrated either during Sunday Mass or after.

Reconciliation

If your child is in Primary 4 or older, he or she is eligible to be enrolled for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This is usually celebrated in November or December.

Confirmation

If your child is in Primary 4 or older, he or she is eligible to be enrolled for the Sacrament of Confirmation. This is usually celebrated in April or May.

First Holy Communion

If your child is in Primary 4, he or she is eligible to be enrolled for the Sacrament of Eucharist. This is usually celebrated in the months of April or May.

Marriage

In accordance with the norms required by canon law, six months notice must be given whether the marriage is to take place here or abroad, in order to enable the required preparation to take place.

(Please Note: Due to the number of requests made for couples to get married in St Margaret’s Cathedral, consideration will only be given to parishioners or those with strong links to the church.)

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

This is the normal form of preparation for those who are Christians of other traditions or those who are non-Christians to enter the Catholic Church. If you think you may be interested in any of the sacraments, further details can be obtained from Father David either through the Presbytery or after mass.
